Your Future Starts Now with Dual Enrollment!

Why wait? Dual enrollment offers a significant advantage, allowing you to experience college-level academics, enhance your transcript, and potentially reduce your future college workload. Imagine walking into your freshman year of college with credits already under your belt – that could be you!

Ready to get started? Follow these simple steps:

  • Apply for Admission: Your first step is to complete the college's Application for Admission. This gets your foot in the door!
  • Talk to Your Counselor: Don't keep your ambitions a secret! Immediately contact your high school counselor and let them know you're interested in dual enrollment. They are your key resource for navigating the process.
  • Meet the Requirements: To be eligible, you must:
    • Be a high school sophomore, junior, or senior. Exceptionally "gifted" 9th-grade students may also be considered.
    • Meet the specific GPA and placement score guidelines set by the college. Your counselor can help you understand these.
  • Complete Permission Forms:
  • Submit Your Forms: Return all completed forms to your high school counselor. They will finalize your enrollment by submitting course requests to dualenrollment@cowley.edu.
  • Arrange Payment: Before your classes even begin, make sure to arrange payment for your courses. Get this sorted early to avoid any last-minute stress!
  • Attend Orientation: Participate in a Concurrent High School Orientation session. These are usually scheduled conveniently with your high school. This session will provide valuable information to help you succeed.

Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to accelerate.

Understanding FERPA at Cowley College: What Parents Need to Know

As your student transitions to college-level coursework, it's important to understand the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This federal law protects the privacy of student education records.

The Fundamental Shift: Student Rights, Not Parent Rights

Once your student enrolls in a postsecondary institution like Cowley College, FERPA rights transfer entirely to them, regardless of their age. This means:

  • Cowley College cannot disclose grades, student billing information, attendance records, or any other education records directly to parents/guardians or spouses without the student's explicit, written consent.
  • How Consent is Given: Your student must complete and submit a FERPA waiver. They can do this easily by logging into Cowley Connect, navigating to the student tab, and selecting FERPA Permissions. They can then follow the prompts and instructions to submit the waiver.

FAQs

Dual enrollment enables eligible high school students to participate in college-level courses and earn both high school and college credits at the same time. These courses are taught by college-approved instructors who follow the college's curriculum and grading standards.

Students will be expected to maintain part-time student status, which means they are enrolled in fewer than 12 credit hours per semester. Occasionally, an exception to this rule may apply. Students who wish to enroll in 12 or more hours in a semester are required to obtain prior approval from the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Cowley College.
