Bowl for Kids' Sake
PTK Members of Cowley's Phi Theta Kappa honor society and their advisor participated in Bowl for Kids' Sake Friday night, April 15 at Northrock Bowling Lanes in Wichita. Bowl for Kids' Sake is a major fundraising event for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sedgwick County. The PTK team raised over $1000 and were treated to free bowling, pizza and beverages. read more

Students learn from the sky and under the ground
salt mine The Mulvane Math and Science Club traveled to Hutchinson last Saturday. They spent the morning at the Kansas Cosmosphere, where they attended a showing of "Tornado Alley" at the IMAX theater.  After lunch at Montana Mike's, the group moved on to the Kansas Underground Salt Museum. read more

PTK students represent Cowley at honors luncheon
Recognized for being named to the All-Kansas Academic Team, four Cowley College students were honored at a luncheon held at the Ramada Inn in Topeka on Thursday. Representing Cowley College were Jordan Lukert and Claudia Sotelo from the Arkansas City campus, and Roberta Anis and Justin Balmer from the Mulvane center. read more

Members of PTK and Cowley College Relay team members at Relay for Life
Relay for LifeSeven student members and one alumni member of Cowley's Alpha Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society joined hundreds of others at the Cowley County Relay for Life at the Arkansas City High School track on Friday, June 17th. Chapter members helped other Cowley College Relay team members with t-shirt and luminary sales and worked in the concession stand. read more
Cowley students take part in Numana food packaging event
NumanaAdvisors and members of Phi Theta Kappa and ACES from Cowley College spent part of Nov. 19-20 doing their part to "Save the Starving" by participating in a Numana food packaging event. read more
M & S Club Last Meeting of the Year
M & S Club The Mulvane Math and Science Club gathered for its final meeting of the semester. Club sponsor, Uwe Conrad, fired up the grill and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for the group. Students services provided the chips, drinks and an "end of the semester" cake. Club officers, Mark Janzen and Austin Howell, provided guitar music. Attendees discussed officer positions and activities for the 2011-12 school year. Others in attendance were Michael Mavec, Curtis Hall, James Allen and Nancy Ayers, co-sponsor.
Relay for Life bake sale and raffle extravaganza
PTK Phi Theta Kappa raised over $700 at their second annual Relay for Life bake sale and raffle extravaganza at the Mulvane Center. Twenty-nine items were donated for the raffle and PTK members provided lots of delicious baked goods which helped make the event a great success. The bake sale and raffle ran from April 25 through May 2, with Phi Theta Kappa members and a few helpers from the Mulvane staff manning the table from open to close every day. read more

Uwe with Ukulele entertains students
luauOn the 6th of April, students at Mulvane Bloomenshine were treated to the second annual Luau. The menu consisted of pineapple glazed ham, smoked pulled pork, lots of fruit and shlushies. The math and science club raised $107. Students entertained themselves with hula hoops and limbo sticks accompanied by Ukulele Music. View more photos 

Cowley student among winners chosen in Stossel Essay contest
With over 7,500 essays from students across the country submitted in the What’s Great About America Stossel Essay contest, Maeve Bruner, a student at Cowley College’s Bloomenshine Center, was awarded Honorable Mention in the contest. read more
PTK members attended a Regional Honors in Action Conference
PTK Conference Members of Alpha Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Cowley College joined chapters from other community colleges across the state and spent a weekend in Garden City, KS, attending a Regional Honors in Action Conference. Activities focused on the international study topic, "The Democratization of Information: Power, Peril and Promise".  read more
Mulvane Math & Science Club raises money to help with field trip
pi day In a classic Pi Day contest that came down to the wire, the Mulvane Bloomenshine tutors earned the honor of receiving cream pies to their faces on Monday afternoon.
In all, the Mulvane Math and Science Club collected $163.29, which will help pay for an upcoming field trip to the Hutchinson Cosmosphere and Salt Mines. read more

Pop-bottle rocket sets off speculation and conspiracy theories about an unexplained missile

The Mulvane Math and Science Club members have been busy. On Tuesday, in conjunction with the “We are out off this world!” theme, the group decided to do some pop-bottle rocket launching. When asked about a possible link of the Mulvane Math and Science Club pop bottle launch and the mysterious vapor trail seen of the California coast, Math and Science Club Communications officer Austin Howell (aka Spok) simply answered with "no comment at this time".  read more 

Students prepare to go "out of this world"
rocketsSticking with the theme “We are out of this world!”,  the Mulvane Math and Science Club spent their first meeting this semester working on rocket ships. Rocket launches are scheduled for later this semester. (Look out for vapor trails off the California coast.) A Pie Day (3.14) competition and a trip to the Hutchinson Salt Mine is also in the works. All students are invited to attend the meetings which are held the second Monday of each month at 12:00 noon. Sponsors for the Mulvane Math and Science club are Uwe Conrad and Nancy Ayers.

PTK welcomes 42 new members

inductionOn Sunday, October 24, Phi Theta Kappa welcomed 42 new members into the Alpha Gamma Upsilon chapter at Cowley College.
The induction ceremony was held in the Wright Room of the Brown Center. Anne Bloyer served as pianist and provided the pre-ceremony music as friends and family members of the inductees gathered to help honor their students who were being accepted into Cowley’s most prestigious academic association.
Faculty advisors, Nancy Ayers, Melinda Neal and Ryan Doom welcomed the group of approximately 70 students and guests. read more

PTK participation in Relay for Life
Relay for Life The Alpha Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Cowley College participated in the Cowley County Relay for Life on Friday, June 18 in Ark City. The team, Promoters of Truth and Knowledge, organized and was in charge of children's activities which took place in the recreation building. Games, which followed the birthday theme of the relay, included ring toss, face painting, bowling, basketball, jewelry making, coloring, cupcake decorating and breaking open a pinata full of candy. Kids and family members also enjoyed free popcorn and sno-cones. The team raised over $1500 for the American Cancer Society.
