PTK members attend the fall Southern District meeting
Members of the Alpha Gamma Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society at Cowley College traveled to Parsons, KS on Saturday, Sept. 10 to attend the fall Southern District Meeting. The group was joined by other Kansas Phi Theta Kappa chapters within the district, including Butler, Labette, Coffeyville, Independence, Neosho, and Allen.
Kansas Regional officers shared the goals of the region as well as the Honors in Action Project for the region. Discussion also included the Community College Completion Corps (C4) project and the Honors Study Topic for the year, "The Democratization of Information: Power, Peril, and Promise".
Plans were unveiled for a Kansas Region bus trip to Memphis in December to attend the St. Jude's Marathon. Several Cowley students are planning to attend and will be accepting donations for this very worthwhile cause.
The day concluded with lots of networking and pizza was provided for lunch. After the official meeting, Cowley members from both campuses met to work on activities for the remainder of the fall semester.
Attending were students, Hannah Dillard, Chi Fung Ng, Ashley McKnight, Chris Romero, Alicia Salazar and faculty advisor, Nancy Ayers.
Letters of invitation to Phi Theta Kappa will be mailed out this month. If you have completed 12 credit hours of non-developmental coursework with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, you should be eligible to join.
